A school zone ahead. A school zone is a section of road adjacent to a school or a school crosswalk where signs designate a school zone. The yellow or the new fluorescent yellow-green five-sided sign indicates the presence of a nearby school and an area in which children will be crossing traveled roads. A sign with the word “AHEAD” means you are approaching a school or school crossing.
