You should come to a complete stop and give the right of way to a pedestrian:

  • When a pedestrian is in a marked crosswalk.
  • When a pedestrian is on your side of the road, in an unmarked crosswalk with no traffic control signals.
  • On school days, when children are around school zone crosswalk.
  • When turning at any intersection.
  • When legally turning on a red light after coming to a complete stop.
  • When coming to a complete stop (stop sign or flashing red signal light) at an intersection.
  • When a pedestrian comes into a crosswalk before it is allowed by traffic lights.
  • When a pedestrian is leaving or entering a street from an alley, private road or driveway.
  • When a pedestrian is getting into an intersection with a flashing yellow arrow.
  • As a driver, you must also yield to construction and maintenance area workers as well as to persons with any disabilities.

When you turn right, be sure to check for pedestrians who want to cross the street and bicyclists riding next to you.
